Our Family June 2024
Why Am I Your Alder:
To give back to the community by contributing some of my time and talent to our district and neighbors. To be involved in shaping our community. To provide clarity and accuracy in the decision-making process of the city. Middleton efficiently manages its resources, keeping taxes in check while providing excellent city services. District 7 is fortunate to have Orchid Heights and Baskerville Parks and to border Pheasant Branch Conservancy. I want to preserve what is good about District 7 and work with you for opportunity to improve and represent our district.
About Me:
We have lived in Middleton since 2004 and District 7 Orchid Heights since 2007. I grew up in this part of the state, originally from Fort Atkinson, WI. I attended undergraduate and graduate school in the Milwaukee area. I currently work and have worked for the past 19 years at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in information technology. My daughter attended Middleton schools K – 12 and recently graduated from UW La Crosse. Julie is retired, prior to retirement she was a professor of economics and worked in utility rate analysis.
How I Represent You:
I am your voice to the city by representing neighborhood concerns and your voice as a vote on the common council. I support consensus building and stewardship of our city budget and being responsive to your concerns. Middleton does a great job of managing the city and this is why as your alder I want to make sure you are represented. My agenda is your agenda and I will help you find the best way to be heard.
What I currently do as your Alder:
Serving as your Alder since 2023 and re-elected in 2025. I serve on the Airport Commission (Chair), Conservancy Lands Committee, Finance and Personnel Committee (Chair), and License and Ordinance. Appointed as one of 3 representatives for the City to be part of the City of Middleton and Town of Middleton intergovernmental negotiations agreement committee. My first work with the city in an official capacity started in 2019 with the appointment to the Airport Commission.
As Chair of the Finance and Personnel Committee I have direct input helping shape our city budget and finances.
As a member of the Conservancy and Lands Committee I can assure that our District and Friends of Pheasant Branch have a voice. The conservancy is within our District 7!
As Chair of the Airport Commission we work to coordinate with The Bureau of Aeronautics and Federal Aviation Administration funding for the airport and work with city and airport staff to manage the airport.
As a member of License and Ordiance I work with our city police and legal counsel to help guild the process for issuing licenses and developing ordinace.
As a member of the intergovernmental negotiation committee we work to develop a long term plan between our municipalities along mutual interests.
Top Priorities for the City:
Helping the city be a good steward of its budget to support services and staffing at all levels from public safety, infrastructure and administration. I support the city’s workforce housing strategy and efforts to develop affordable housing that includes access to public transportation. I support development of non-motorized transportation and public transit. We must be realistic and forward thinking about how the city can be a sustainable partner to address climate concerns.
District 7 Watch List:
Traffic Calming. Driven by our neighbors along the Old Creek and Pheasant Branch Road corridor, installing systems to enhance safety. Residents have organized neighborhood meetings to gather input on ideas for traffic calming. The city has budgeted funding to start conducting a formal survey to see if there is neighborhood commitment for traffic calming measures.
North Mendota pedestrian and bike path development between Highland Way and Highland Way along Century Ave has been cancelled.
Century Avenue reconstruction project monitoring.
Conservancy Lands Plan draft a plan for managing our conservancy. Draft completed February 2025.
Conservancy path development connecting Orchid Heights Park up to John C. Bock to Highland Way.
Resident expressed interest of adding street lights to Orchid Heights. The city is currently working on a cost estimate that can be presented to the residents of Orchid Heights. I would like to know your opinion, survey coming soon.
